Study mode
The Master's programme can be studied entirely in English. All compulsory courses offered by the University of Würzburg are taught in English. However, to offer students additional options, some modules in the elective area are available exclusively in German. One such exception is the compulsory elective module Group E (Diversity and Difference Criteria), which is only available in German.
Most courses take place at Campus Hubland Nord of the University of Würzburg. For students who are unable to study on campus in Würzburg, most lectures are available in a hybrid-synchronous format, allowing online participation.
University of Würzburg offers it programmes on-site. This is also the case for the Master in Adult Education and Management in Lifelong Education. However, most courses in the programme are conducted in a synchronous-hybrid mode, allowing for online participation.
While synchronous-online study is available, we strongly recommend attending the on-campus intensive weeks in Würzburg. These weeks offer invaluable opportunities to engage with the university community, take part in academic activities, and explore the city of Würzburg. Additionally, we strongly advise students to be present on campus during the first and second week of the semester, as well as during the two-week Adult Education Academy in February. Beyond these times, there is no mandatory requirement for students to be in Würzburg in person.
However, please be aware that participating in distance learning requires a high degree of self-organization. You will need a stable internet connection, a quiet and productive work environment, and a well-equipped laptop. Online students must be capable of organizing their studies independently. As seminar sessions are held in synchronous-hybrid mode, your online presence and active participation are essential for succesfull studies. Please note that there is no additional personal guidance provided for fully online students. Therefore, it is crucial that online participants connect with on-site students during the first two weeks of the semester to establish a strong network and ensure a successful learning experience.
A study visa or a residence permit is required for enrolment in the programme. While the Master's programme is primarily a face-to-face programme offered in Würzburg, online study is possible. However, a residence permit is still mandatory for enrolment, and it is advisable to apply for a visa as early as possible. For more details, please refer to the website of the Service Centre InterNational Transfer.
Additionally, although online study is available, we strongly recommend attending the on-campus intensive weeks in Würzburg. These weeks provide valuable opportunities to engage with the university community, participate in academic activities, and explore Würzburg.
